Sometimes, things we plan for, work hard for, or dream of simply don’t happen. They fall apart, fall through, or fall away. No doubt it hurts, perhaps you even feel like a failure. I’ve spent some time this morning gathering quotes to help put that loss into perspective. Nothing is the end of the world, perhaps you need to insulate yourself against it happening again, or perhaps you need to arm yourself with better tools to tackle it again. Either way, you can carry on, and try to make the best of what you have left now.
Failure isn’t fatal, but failure to change might be.
Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life.
I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss,
or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have
– life itself.
Giving up is the only sure way to fail.
Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.
Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.
The aim of the wise is not to secure pleasure, but to avoid pain.
There is no failure except in no longer trying.
When you can’t remember why you’re hurt, that’s when you’re healed.
It’s not how far you fall, but how high you bounce that counts.
Don’t hold to anger, hurt or pain. They steal your energy and keep you from love.
I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.
Nobody can hurt me without my permission.
It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.
I have learned now that while those who speak about one’s miseries usually hurt, those who keep silence hurt more.
C. S. Lewis
A man can fail many times, but he isn’t a failure until he begins to blame somebody else.
I’ve done more harm by the falseness of trying to please than by the honesty of trying to hurt.
Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed on an equal or greater benefit.
Hurt leads to bitterness, bitterness to anger, travel too far that road and the way is lost.
Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be.
