After posting the previous entry via Windows Live Writer:
Negative:
- Key words did not integrate into my current keywords
- Because no key words, related posts aren’t generated
- Technorati links aren’t generated, again because of the keywords don’t jive with what I use
Positive:
- Image uploaded with the post
- Link to full-size image maintained
I downloaded and installed Andrew Grant’s Keyword tags, which is supposed to resolve the tagging issue, but didn’t. It generates a whole different level of tags.
Let me know how Writer integrates with your blog, especially if you use a different platform. And if you have any tips, tricks, plugins, hacks to turn Live Writer into a working blog-from-windows-desktop app from a simple drafting editor, please pass them on!
Oh, and I’ve found that editing existing entries via Live Writer works great, without breaking any existing tagging, related posts, or linking.

Ello,
What package do you currently use for tags? By default Keyword Tags provides a complete tagging package but via the configuration page it can be made to coexist with, or replace, several other tagging pluggins while still supporting Live Writer.
Andrew
Hey Andrew, I use Jerome’s. I selected the setting to have the plugin integrate with Jerome’s, but I need to take a lot more time to see why I get a different entry on the post for the tags entered via your plugin versus the tags entered as I do now. In the wordpress editor, I now have 2 places to enter keywords, and only the original will pull related posts and link to technorati. Any advice is more than welcome!!!
Hi,
Yeap, if you have two plugins for tags you’ll get two places to enter tags! The reason only one works is probably caused by them both writing to the database, so the blank one is writing blank tags over the actual tags.
You probably want to disable “Automatically append tags to posts) in Keyword Tags. That option is designed for people who want a quick and easy way to add tags to a new blog.
From what I can see you have two options:
1) Disable Jerome’s and in your theme use keyword tags to display the tag line instead of Jeromes (kwt_print_keyword_string();).
2) Edit the Keyword Tags tags plugin (kwt_main.php) so it doesn’t add a box for tags to the editor.
I would recommend 1). It’s a little bit more work, but it means you only need one plugin instead of two.
Thanks Andrew!
I’ll look into your suggestions more closely a little later. I really would like Live Writer to integrate the key words with related posts and technorati, and if your plugin will do it, I’m all for it! Thanks for responding, and for the tips. I’m hoping I’ll have time to do this next week. I’ll update my progress and success/failures here :)
Hey Renee,
I’d dump LiveWriter if I were you. Since installing it you haven’t written a thing.
:)
Seriously, I hope all’s OK. I’m missing your blogging!
Hi Renee,
I was sorting out my IE7 RSS subscriptions today (adding loads more) and noticed that my existing subscription to yours wasn’t updated. So I deleted it and tried to subscribe again, but I got this “fatal error” message from IE7:
An invalid character was found in text content.
Line: 127 Character: 17
tagsâ
Just thought I’d let you know in case it’s related to your recent problems (and in case it means no-one’s RSS feed from your blog is being updated, rather than it just being an IE7-specific thing).
IE7 says it can subscribe to RSS 2.0 and Atom 0.3 feeds, which can be very useful for those of us who don’t have an RSS newsreader application.
Hi Bob!
I tested both the default feeds, as well as the feedburner feed, and they seem to be OK.
Is anyone else having this problem? I don’t use IE7, so I can’t see what’s going on there. Which feed are you using? The default on the page or the feedburner one? If you haven’t tried the feedburner feed, click the subscribe link instead of using IE7s default subscription add from the main page. Hope that made sense!
Let me know how it goes…
Hi Renee,
When I click the two subscribe buttons, under “Navigation” and “Stuff” (which both point to feedburner) I get the same error message that I get when I click the RSS subscribe button in IE7’s toolbar.
I presume the invalid character the error message is referring to is the “â” in “tagsâ”, and since you’ve been having problems with your tags/keywords, I wondered if the two problems might be related - like, maybe the spurious character has been inserted by another app and it’s corrupted the feed’s code. Or something!
I’m not sure what you mean by “Which feed are you using? The default on the page or the feedburner one?” I can only see the feedburner one - i.e. the link via your two “subscribe” buttons. Where’s the “default on the page” located? Is it something visible?
I assume the IE7 subscribe button will check to see whether there’s an RSS 2.0 and/or an Atom 0.3 feed it can pick up - that’s the two it lists in its drop-down menu next to the button in the toolbar.
I’m not terribly up to speed on RSS feeds, I’m afraid (on a steep learning curve here!), or how IE7 handles them. Hope this, in return, makes sense! :)
I have redone all of my keywords and related posts… does it work now?
YES! It’s working! :))
When I first went back to your page, IE7’s RSS button stayed grey and I thought, oh blow. But I clicked on your subscribe button under Navigation and it thought about it, then offered me the same subscribe page I get when I click the IE7 button. I was able to subscribe. When I came back to your page again, the IE7 RSS button was orange, and clicking it brought up the feed.
This tells me three things: one, you’ve fixed your code. Two: clicking an RSS button on someone’s page, if they’ve got one, will probably bring up the subscribtion page even if the IE7 button has remained grey. And three: I didn’t know that. I’m always pleased when I learn something new while helping someone out.
I’ll keep a beady eye on it, make sure it doesn’t start misbehaving again.

Yay!. I disabled all of my plugins, then reactivate them. Even then, I had problems with keywords and related posts! So I disabled them again, deleted them all from the server, reuploaded fresh plugins, double checked all of my markup in templates and such, then reactivated. It seems to be happy now. For now at least…
